Here's a quick video of a Teleportec machine in operation...
Instead of a real person at the other end of the line, how about a computer generated 3d persona helping you with your flight or hotel checkin, tourist information etc.
Technology cant be too far away from enabling it. I suspect it will open up a new field of interaction design.
